Instagram is a photo editing and sharing application for iPhone and Android devices. The acquisition was confirmed by Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO) on his Facebook page.
Instagram has been used by 30 million iPhone users since its launch in October 2010. After 12 hours Instagram for Android launched last week, no less than 1 million users to download it. Zuckerberg also acknowledged that the purchase of Instagram is the first acquisition of a product with many users.
Does this acquisition mean its users will no longer be able to share the photos of them to other social media networks besides Facebook?
Fortunately Zuckerberg will ensure mebuat Instagram remain independent. "We plan to keep the features like the ability to post to other social networks," Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page.
Meanwhile Instagram CEO, Kevin Systrom, as written on official company blog, ensure that Instagram will remain as it is now. "We are working with Facebook to develop and build Instagram network," wrote Systrom. He said also that the new feature will continue to be added to this product to create a new, more exciting experience.
Instagram acquisitions made by Facebook as they prepare for an IPO (initial public offering) which is expected next spring.
